To be honest, most of us started out as the kids the school system didn't know what to do with. Every member of Cherrybomb is neurodivergent, and before we found theatre, we were pretty much drifting. We were misunderstood, written off, and felt like we had no real purpose or place to fit in.
Theatre gave us a way out. It turned us from frustrated youths into adults who actually cause change. Since then, the journey has been a whirlwind. We’ve taken our work as far as the Gaza Strip back in 1995. We’ve even met the Queen—all because we leaned into our neurodiversity and used it to create something big. We’ve gone from being the ones ignored in the classroom to starring in films and producing our own work.
Our plays and workshops don't shy away from the gritty stuff. We’ve built educational pieces on the reality of drugs and the impact of knife crime. But we also believe in the power of a laugh. Our award-winning play, Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover, uses comedy to get people thinking differently.
We do this because we lived it. We know exactly what it’s like to struggle with learning difficulties and feel like you’re shouting into a void. Now, we use theatre and film to create an avenue for those same emotions, making sure the next generation has the tools to be understood.
